“When you’re surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment around a common purpose, anything is possible.” -Howard Schultz
Drills, practice, every play, everything must be done with purpose and understanding of what the goal is for the team. It is up to the coach to provide the clarity and teach the purpose, depending on the particular coach’s philosophy. It is up to the players to understand and execute that particular purpose.
I find that the more my players understand the why, the better chance they have to excel above and beyond. Having that information is critical to the process, and when they are playing they are best able to fill in the gaps because of the knowledge they possess of why they are doing something.
What examples can you think of that would contribute to a more purposeful team enviornment?
