Inclusive

Inclusion is probably the most important concept in the society in which we are currently living. Dictionary.com defines inclusion as:

1.     The act of including.
2.     The state of being included.
3.     Something that is included.

With that in mind, I would like my ICE Academy audience to know that I will maintain a broad range when I cover the various topics. In no way am I singling out any one group specifically, as I feel the greatest strength we have, as a community, is variety: variety of ideas, perspectives, and critical insight. This is a big reason why ICE Academy is highly interactive. Your opinions are important and your feedback is always welcomed and encouraged.

Competitive

It is my opinion that competition drives the greatest innovation and revolution. We know that the word "competition" is derived from the Latin word "competere", which means, "to seek together, to coincide, to agree.” Opponents are viewed as co-creators of an experience, and competition as a process of striving with, not against, others. This is the greatest illustration of the beautiful, peaceful nature of competition when it isn’t being exploited for financial gain or selfish glory.

ICE Academy is a place where the nature of competition continuously brings out the best in all of us, and it is that competitive edge which always wins the day.

Elite

I was introduced to the word “elite” at a very young age, when I began my life of competing on some of the best club basketball teams in the country—both boys and girls.

Elite is classically defined as

1. (n) The choice or best of anything considered collective, as a group or class of persons, 2. (n) Persons of the highest class. 3. (n) A group of persons exercising the major share of authority or influence within a larger group, and 4. (adj) Representing the most choice or select; best.

There is a specific characteristic that makes something “elite”. There is a persistence of perfection, and a cold, hard commitment to success through discipline and championship level achievement. The skills must be elite, the hard work must be elite, the warm-ups must be elite, the coaching must be elite, the clothing must be elite, the offense must be elite, the defense must be elite, the swag must be elite, and so on.

Although talent and natural abilities plays largely in the elite game, the state of being elite can be an undiscoverable edge for those who are not intimidated to pursue its heights. Meaning, opponents will never be able to reach you, because you are so far above and beyond their scope of elevation. You worked hard to get to this level, and now the climate surrounding you has become your resting home. That is what elite feels like.

Inclusive. Competitive. Elite.
