A Butterfly Bustin' Out

A Butterfly Bustin' Out

The Journey of the Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus)

From Wikipedia: The [Monarch butterfly] may be the most familiar North American butterfly, and the population is notable for its annual southward late-summer/autumn migration from the northern and central United States and southern Canada to Florida and Mexico.

Monarch flight has been described as "slow and sailing".

While thinking about the place that I’m in [in my life] right now, I think about the very moment when a butterfly has decided it’s the right time to make its move out of the cocoon. But how exactly does it bust out? Is it by its own instincts, or is it purely driven by the same cycle of science that led it to wrap itself up in the cocoon in the first place? Recently, I did a photo shoot that helped me break out of my personal, physical and spiritual cocoon. Here I share those images:

Ownership vs. Accountability

There is one set of scriptures in the Bible (New Testament) in particular that I was able to get serious relief from, once when I was most struck with a very difficult grief during my former life as a patient caterpillar from the past decade.

Reading, meditating and trying my hardest to apply this verse to my life helps me to better think about and understand how I feel about the ownership of my body vs. the ownership of the various individual choices I make to do with it.

Ultimately, I believe I am not under the authority of the will of my own body. This humbling fact causes me to repent and change how I behave. It is the principle idea of ownership vs. accountability, and although it is a very tough practice in today’s culture and society, it is one worth self-sacrificing for.

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

-1 Corinthians 6: 18-20

In the midst of uncertainty, I remain confident and certain in this: I will stand strong in my identity as a beautiful woman (like a brand new butterfly bustin’ out) who is fearfully and wonderfully made by God.
