Elevate Your Standards

Elevate Your Standards

Today marks the first day of basketball season for the 2017-2018 Varsity Girls basketball team at La Jolla Country Day School. I am extremely excited to be closely working with them this season, and am most looking forward to seeing the development of our fantastic 4 seniors, all committed to their colleges of choice and ready to leave a leadership legacy behind for their teammates to follow. I can already tell what the theme will be for the pre-season approach: Elevate Your Standards

So proud/excited for this special group of Seniors! Congratulations on a fine selection of colleges. #Classof18

This initially started as a coaching strategy that I had to take after my Junior Varsity girls team positively surprised themselves with how well they played during our first volleyball tournament.

Elevating your standards means that you expand the range of what is to be expected and what is to be required. Also, as the standards elevate, you are responsible for holding yourself accountable as well as others on the team.

It is always important to understand that with team sports, success is a shared experience.

As we shift towards a new season, understand this one core idea. What are some ways you can elevate your standards--in life, sports, or in the classroom? Let me know your ideas in the comments below.
